* Have you been physically present in the United States on a J-1 Visa for all or part of the previous 24-months?

You may proceed with registration but will be subject to the following restrictions before you can obtain a J-1 Visa for Researchers.

•   If you are currently in the U.S. on a Research Scholar/Professor J-1 Visa, you are eligible to transfer your participation from your current sponsor to another sponsor and change your host institution.
•   If you previously held a J-1 Visa in the Research Scholar/Professor category, please note you must wait 2 years from the end of your prior stay before you can start a new Research Scholar program UNLESS your previous program was as a Short-term Scholar.
•   If you previously held a J-1 Visa in a category other than Research Scholar/Professor (i.e. Student Non-Degree, Intern, Trainee, Specialist) and
1.   your stay was less than 6 months, you do not have to wait and may be eligible for a Research Scholar program at this time. OR
2.   your stay was more than 6 months, you must wait 12 months after the end of your prior stay as a J-1 before starting a new Research Scholar program.
